Looking forward to the energy and opportunities elections bring, Lori Harasem is running for the position of Councillor in Coalhurst, a community her family moved to in 2007.
The candidate’s grandfather was born in Coalhurst in 1913. “One of the first people to be born in Coalhurst,” notes Harasem.
Harasem, who has worked in municipal government administration for over 15 years, has left that line of work, to focus on gearing up for the Councillor candidate run.
“I believe my experience in helping make projects, events, programs, and facilities happen in Lethbridge, and my relationships with many organizations across the region, will translate well to creating new opportunities for our community to improve quality of life, and to grow Coalhurst,” Harasem notes.
Harasem has a background in observing, presenting to and working with Lethbridge City Council, as well as extensive knowledge of fund and community development, and serving on dozens of boards.
Harasem believes many people are struggling financially, and after working in social development knows affordability for the community needs to be top of mind.
One of the most exciting projects Coalhurst Town Council is working on is the development of Phases 1 and 2 of the Wetlands project, and Harasem is one of the volunteers who sat on the committee.
Harasem says the Town also needs more businesses, activities and opportunities for everyone. “I especially know our teens and young adults feel like there isn’t a lot here for them.”
