Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the Alberta RCMP participated in enforcement initiatives as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s #OperationImpact2026, a campaign aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities on Canadian roadways.
From Oct. 9-12, the following Immediate Roadside Sanctions were issued:
- Four drivers received IRS 24-hour suspensions;
- 21 drivers received IRS WARNS;
- 55 drivers received IRS FAILS; and
- Seven novice or commercial drivers received IRS ZEROES.
Additionally, officers issued 1,861 traffic violation tickets, including 755 for speeding, 32 for distracted driving, and 25 for seatbelt infractions.
Despite enforcement efforts, there were 15 injury collisions and two fatal collisions during the enforcement period.
In total, two people lost their lives.
“Operation Impact is an important reminder road safety requires constant attention behind the wheel,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull from Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “While enforcement plays a role, every driver has a responsibility to make safe choices and help keep Alberta’s roads safe.”
