Family fun is only minutes away near Park Lake at the Lethbridge Corn Maze, which is open until Halloween, weather permitting.
For more than 25 years, the Slingerland family has marked Thanksgiving by finding meaningful ways to give back to the community.
This year’s annual Thanksgiving fundraiser proceeds will go to support Safe Families Lethbridge.
“We love seeing families spending time together out at our farm. Family means a lot to us, so we’re happy to support such a wonderful organization that helps strengthen families in our community,” says owner and operator Theo Slingerland.
The fundraising event was a little slow this year because of the weather, Slingerland adds. “We still raised over $7,500.”
Plus, $2,000 will be added to raise the amount to $10,000.
Visitors can enjoy corn mazes, yard mazes, ziplines, a corn pit, a jumping pillow, a petting zoo and guests can pick out the perfect pumpkin.
According to Slingerland, there are a few upgrades and additions to this year’s outdoor tourist attraction.
“We changed our bathrooms and handwash station, so that’s all upgraded. Instead of a sandbox, there’s a corn pit. We have a corn box with corn instead of sand, so that’s a new one,” Slingerland notes.
Slingerland says the season has been going very well, thus far. “People are coming out and enjoying it. Attendance is good and from feedback – people love to come out, and there’s a lot of positive response from people, so it’s going very well this year.”
The theme this year is southern Alberta, Slingerland explains. “We have the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. There’s a cloud with the wind symbol like the Chinook winds from the southwest, and I took a picture of the outline of the mountains like Chief Mountain.”
Slingerland adds there’s also a wide-variety of pumpkins and squash for sale. “Usually, we have some honey, and we have some other crafts that people make. We still have a lot of pumpkins and gourds left.”
