A familiar face for economic growth in the Lethbridge area will be joining the Lethbridge County team as the community’s first Director of Growth and Engagement.
Trevor Lewington will be taking on the role in November, focusing on accelerating sustainable growth, strengthening strategic relationships, and removing barriers to investment and development across the region. Lewington is coming to the county after a decade as CEO of Economic Development Lethbridge.
According to a statement from county officials, “Lewington brings extensive experience to the position, having served as CEO of Economic Development Lethbridge for the past decade. He has been instrumental in advancing the region’s economy, supporting the growth of local businesses, and building collaborative partnerships to foster long-term prosperity.”
Lewington says he is thrilled to step into the newly created role and support bringing the county’s vision of being Canada’s most innovative rural community to life. He adds that the municipality’s commitment to shared prosperity, strong relationships, and regional diversification are values that resonate with him.
“In this role, I look forward to working collaboratively with communities, industry, and other stakeholders to build on our strengths, diversify our economy, and create opportunity across the region,” Lewington says.
He explains the community’s economic development strategy includes investment attraction, business retention and expansion, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships. Investment attraction, aligning infrastructure and land‑use planning with growth needs, and simplifying pathways for responsible development are priorities identified by the county.
Reeve Tory Campbell says this is the time to pursue new avenues for “opportunity and harness our strengths”, ensuring the county remains an economic driver for the years to come.
“Global economic uncertainty, shifting industry needs, and rapid technological change demand that we act with purpose and agility. This role allows us to be proactive — not reactive — in attracting investment, supporting innovation in agriculture, and creating the kind of regional partnerships that sustain long-term prosperity,” Campbell says.
Lewington will start his new role on November 12th and says he is looking forward to continuing to strengthen communities across southern Alberta.
