Final crop report of 2025 yields positive results for Alberta

The last crop report of 2025 for Alberta has been released. It notes that harvest is virtually complete with 99 per cent of major crops combined.

That figure surpasses the five and 10-year averages of 97 and 83 per cent, respectively.

Province-wide, dry peas were listed at being 100 per cent harvested in all regions, while spring wheat, barley, oats and canola were hovering around the 98 to 99 per cent marks.

Quality-wise, crops in the south region were rated at 51 per cent ‘good to excellent’, while they were at 26 per cent in the northwest, 16 per cent in the central region and 11 per cent in the northeast. The Peace region did not report any fall-seeded crops.

The report notes that soil moisture has seen a decline across the province.

Surface moisture conditions rated ‘good to excellent’ were at:

  • South Region: 22 per cent (five-year average: 22);
  • Central Region: Nine per cent (46);
  • Northeast Region: Seven per cent (39);
  • Northwest Region: 22 per cent (55);
  • Peace Region: 29 per cent (61).

The report states that most areas of the province are going into winter with dry soil conditions. Officials note that average or higher winter snowfall, as well as precipitation in the spring will be needed to replenish soil moisture and support growth next year.
