Emergency alert test happening Wednesday

Canada’s national emergency alert system will be tested later this week.

In Alberta, the Alert Ready test is set for about 1:55 p.m. Wednesday. Alberta Emergency Alert will send the test to cellphones, televisions and radios, starting with the alert tone followed by a message explaining it is only a test.

The provincial Emergency Management Agency said the routine tests help people prepare for real emergencies, allow officials to practise issuing alerts and confirm the system is working.
