Plan Ahead: City offering incentive for prepaid taxes

Lethbridge property owners can start prepaying their 2026 property taxes at the beginning of the year.

The City of Lethbridge says prepayments made in January or February will receive a discount when 2026 tax bills are issued in May. Prepayments cannot exceed the previous year’s bill.

“The discount will be equivalent to earning interest at one per cent per year from the date of payment starting in 2026 to June 30, 2026,” the city said in a release.

Residents already enrolled in the Tax Installment Pre-payment Plan, or TIPP, receive a monthly discount on their credit balance. The city is also accepting new enrolments in the program.

Payments can be made online, through a financial institution, in person at City Hall, by mail or using the secured drop box at City Hall.
