UPDATE: Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for southeastern Alberta.
The agency issued the warning at 2:24 p.m. Wednesday, reporting hazardous winter conditions are expected across the region.
In the Lethbridge area, periods of heavy flurries combined with strong winds could reduce visibility at times.
The warning said, “Sharp drops in temperature, as much as 14 degrees in one hour, have been reported in that area. There, any remaining slush or pooling water is likely to freeze as temperatures drop rapidly this afternoon and evening.”
A wind warning is also in effect for the region. Drivers are urged to be prepared for rapidly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
A wind warning is in effect for southern Alberta, with Environment Canada forecasting gusts up to 130 km/h.
Environment Canada issued the warning at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, advising of westerly winds along the Highway 3 corridor between Lethbridge and the B.C. border.
“Utility outages are likely. Driving conditions will likely be very difficult,” Environment Canada said. “High-sided vehicles could be overturned by the wind.”
Residents are advised to secure loose objects.
The winds are expected to weaken Wednesday night.
