Zellers announces plan to open more stores across Canada

Zellers has announced plans to expand across the country. This follows the successful launch of a stand-alone store in Edmonton last October.

There is no word on whether the iconic retailer will make a return to Lethbridge or not.

However, the company says it is actively pursuing new leading opportunities across Canada as part of a phased national expansion plan.

Officials say the company will initially focus on “every major Canadian market”.

The company notes the debut of its Zellers 3.0 concept store in Edmonton exceeded expectations, seeing consistent customer traffic, positive feedback and better-than-targeted sales.

In 2023, Lethbridge was one of the communities to see a ‘pop-up’ location of Zellers, which was a smaller-scale version of the store located inside the Melcor Centre’s Hudson’s Bay location.

The Zellers store operated in Lethbridge from 1968 until its closure in 2013. It was originally opened on Mayor Magrath Drive South before making a move to Centre Village Mall.
