Deadline nears for Lethbridge businesses to submit waste reports

The deadline is approaching for local businesses to submit their annual waste reports to the City of Lethbridge.

There are over 2,900 businesses and organizations in Lethbridge. Officials say big or small, for-profit and non-profits have to submit a waste report each year under the Mandatory Recycling and Organics requirements in the City’s Waste Bylaw 6146.

Home-based businesses are exempt and do not need to file a report.

Reports can be done online for free, with businesses needing to list:

  • What kinds of waste their business generates;
  • If it gets sorted for recycling or composting; and
  • How it gets collected.

The City notes that the industrial, commercial and institutional sector in Lethbridge comprises almost two-thirds of all landfilled waste each year.

Officials say that by filling out a report each year, ICI members can help reduce waste and divert more materials from the landfill.

The annual waste reports are due Saturday, January 31 and can be filed online.
