‘Night to Shine’ celebrates 12 years locally, globally

This Friday, an unforgettable prom night experience returns to Lethbridge.

Night to Shine is centred on love and inclusion for individuals with special needs, ages 14 and older.

MyCityCare, in partnership with the Tim Tebow Foundation, celebrates 12 years globally.

Hosted by hundreds of organizations across the world, Night to Shine transforms a local venue into a high-energy event, where every guest is treated as royalty.

From a red-carpet entrance with a cheering crowd, to a delicious dinner, fun games and dancing all night long, the night is designed to honour the inherent value of every individual.

“Night to Shine is the heartbeat of what we do at MyCityCare,” says Site Director Tanya Lister. “It’s more than just a celebration. It’s a declaration [that] every individual in our city belongs and deserves to be championed.”

Lister adds the event is probably one of the most fun nights of the year.

“We have such a great time celebrating the individuals in our city with special abilities. The real heart of MyCityCare is always inclusion and making sure everyone knows they’re valued and we make them feel loved in a way that gives dignity,” Lister notes.

As guests enter to celebrate Night to Shine, they get a crown or a tiara, says Lister. “We have a whole group of volunteers every year that show up, and their literal job is the cheering squad. They cheer, hoot and holler, as the guests walk the red carpet.”

The night also features limo rides and a photo booth.

“We have a dance floor that stays busy pretty much the whole night. It’s just a really great time. Our guests look forward to it every year,” says Lister. “And it’s a very exciting night for our team, as well.”

This year, Lister notes attendance is a bit higher than last year with 198 registered guests.
