Noah, Olivia listed as top baby names for Alberta in 2025

A naming dynasty carries on in Alberta.

For the seventh year in a row, Noah has been listed as the top baby’s name for boys in the province in 2025.

Meanwhile, Olivia has landed the top spot for girls’ names for the 13th straight year.

For boys, Theodore, Oliver, Henry, Jack and Lucas (tied) filled out the top five choices, while Amelia, Emma and Sophia (tied), Charlotte and Violet rounded out the top five for most popular girls’ names.

“We’re proud to welcome the youngest members of our population to Alberta’s family,” says Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally.

“We’ll continue working to make Alberta a place where they can succeed and someday start families of their own.”

The province adds that over 52,000 births were registered in Alberta last year, with parents choosing over 14,500 unique names.

Officials say the full list of baby names reflects the impact of Alberta’s growing film and television industry, with many inspired by celebrities and pop culture characters. Some of these names include Khaleesi, Zendaya, and Beckham.

Additionally, some new parents drew inspiration from Greek mythology with names like Zephyr and Artemis, while others looked to Mother Nature in naming their children, with names such as Azalea, Magnolia and Sparrow on the provincial list.

Other names include Faith, Joy and Treasure, with some paying homage to Alberta’s heritage with names like Jasper and Rose, the province’s official floral emblem.

Parents in the province have up to one year to register a child’s birth, with officials saying that could change the final numbers for 2025 slightly as late registrations are processed.

The top baby names in the province for 2025, as well as years past, are available on the Alberta government website.
