Casa features three new art exhibitions until May 29.
A University of Lethbridge student exhibition entitled Retrieval Cues is curated by Cass Williamson and highlights emerging artists, while exploring memory, remembrance and recollection in the Main Floor Gallery.
Curator and Gallery Services Manager Darcy Logan says this is a biannual exhibition.
“Where we go out to the U of L and do studio visits with the students and come back and put together an exhibition and have a chance for those young emerging artists to share what they do with the community,” Logan notes.
In the Saokitapi Gallery, Survival presents the work of Darren Weaselchild, a Siksika Nation artist and Red Seal Journeyman painter whose practice blends art with Blackfoot teachings, while supporting community healing and youth mentorship.
According to Logan, the upstairs gallery is a dedicated space for exhibitions by Indigenous and Blackfoot artists.
The gallery is curated by Star Crop Eared Wolf.
The Concourse Gallery hosts In the Meantime, organized by the Alberta Society of Artists, exploring themes of transition, pause, and the quiet spaces between moments.
“It’s a group exhibition by an organization that’s been an important part of the arts infrastructure in Alberta for decades,” Logan adds.
“We have a really vibrant and diverse arts community in Lethbridge. An important component of that is the art program at the U of L. So many of the artists that graduate out of that program stay here and are artists working in the community, working as arts administrators in the community, so it lays an important foundation and groundwork for a healthy arts ecology in the city,” Logan explains.
Logan encourages everyone to come out and see what these amazing young artists are doing. “It’s always free to visit The Gallery at Casa, and the exhibitions change every six to seven weeks.”
The Gallery at Casa is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
