Lethbridge County to change safety codes service providers

Lethbridge County is in the process of switching up safety codes service providers, as of May 11.

The Inspections Group will be accepting all new safety codes permit applications.

As of that date, Park Enterprises will no longer accept new permit applications.

If you already have an application or permit with Park Enterprises, here’s what you need to know:

  • Applications submitted to Park Enterprises before May 11 — whether complete or incomplete — will continue to be managed by Park Enterprises until the file is closed or July 17, whichever comes first.
  • On July 17, any remaining applications, permits or inspections still being handled by Park Enterprises will be transferred to The Inspections Group.

Safety codes permits are required under the provincial Safety Codes Act to ensure compliance with safety standards and include:

  • Building
  • Electrical
  • Gas
  • Plumbing
  • Sewage

Safety codes permits must be obtained for most major construction projects, such as:

  • New buildings
  • Renovations, additions, and alterations
  • Relocations
  • Demolitions
  • Changes in use to existing buildings

The County and Inspections Group plans to hold an Open House during the transition period and will provide details at a later date.

As part of the County’s commitment to continuous improvement, customer service and fiscal responsibility, the County regularly reviews contracted services.

The process for development permits in the County has not changed. County staff remain responsible for development permits.
