River Valley fire ban in effect

A fire ban is in effect for all open fires in the Lethbridge River Valley.

The City of Lethbridge said a combination of warm temperatures and low humidity has increased the risk of fast-moving, uncontrolled fires, resulting in the immediate ban.

Officials said dry grass and brush can ignite easily, and even a small spark can spread quickly.

“Residents and visitors are asked to use extra caution. Do not light any open fires and ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely,” reads a statement from the city.

The fire ban will remain in place until further notice.
