Starting this month, the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ’s Foodie Fest returns to Festival Square May 26.
Executive Director Sarah Aimies said Foodie Fest will also be held May 28, June 30 and in July, as food trucks and vendors will park in Festival Square and along 3 Avenue South and Galt Gardens with a variety of delicious culinary delights from 12-8 p.m. “We have a busker who comes in typically between noon and 1 p.m. That tends to be our busiest time.”
This summer, Aimies added the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ welcomes four new ambassadors or street engagement team members. “They’ve learned how to post blogs, how to use all the equipment in the office, including the cameras and the drones, and all the tools of the trade we need in order to be able to fully promote Festival Square and the wider downtown.”
Visitors to the downtown core should expect to see the ambassadors throughout the summer helping at the parking kiosks, during Foodie Fest and at other summer events.
Aimes noted the first Downtown Farmers’ Market returns July 8. “It’ll be every Wednesday until the last Wednesday of August.”
“We’re excited about that one. It’s a perennial favourite,” she added.
According to Aimes, she counted the number of events that are close to or centred around Festival Square from May 1 through July 8. “I’ve got over 23 events.”
Earlier this month, Festival Square hosted Taco Fest, which included wrestling and Mexican food and music.
Every Thursday night, The Telegraph also puts out its patios for patrons to relax and listen to music. “People are invited to come and chill on those patios,” said Aimes.
On May 28, Festival Square will be celebrating its fifth anniversary featuring a breakfast with entertainment and more.
“This piece is about celebrating and honouring the groups and the individuals that have worked so hard over the last five years to make Festival Square the success it is today,” noted Aimes.
