11 Street South watermain upgrade enters final phase

A watermain replacement project is entering its final stage.

Beginning Monday, May 11, the 200 block of 11 Street South, between 2 Avenue and 3 Avenue South, will be closed. Additionally, the intersection of 11 Street South and 2 Avenue South will be closed to traffic, with detours put in place.

The City of Lethbridge said pedestrian access to local businesses will stay open during the construction project.

Officials added that there may be brief water service interruptions, but no prolonged outages are expected. The City said if a planned interruption is needed, impacted properties will get at least 24 hours’ notice.

The short pauses are part of upgrading the system, which helps ensure stronger and more reliable service in the future, according to the City.

The project is expected to be finished by June 22, weather permitting.
