It will be time to cool off in Lethbridge, as spray parks in the city open this long weekend.
The City said the water will start flowing on Friday, May 15, with three locations available for residents to enjoy, including:
- Legacy Spray Park – open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
-
- This is the city’s largest splash zone and is in north Legacy Park. It features three areas: a tot zone, a family zone, and a dedicated space for kids aged five to 12.
- Rotary Centennial Fountain (Galt Gardens) – open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
-
- A total of 97 synchronized jets dance with music and lights for residents to cool off and enjoy a show.
- Gyro Spray Park – open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
-
- Gyro is behind the Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre and is designed for kids of all ages and includes multiple combinations of water nozzles.
Both Gyro and Rotary are set to open with shortened hours to help with ongoing water conservation in the city. Officials said most of the water used at Legacy and Rotary is cleaned and recycled, but that is not the case at Gyro Spray Park.
The City noted that if further water conservation is needed, hours at Gyro might be reduced or the park may be closed. On the flip-side, officials said hours could also be extended later in the season, depending on the water situation in the city.
If the forecast high is below 15 degrees Celsius, parks will not open that day, and if conditions become rainy or windy, the parks might close with short notice for safety. Spray parks are free to visit and are set to stay open through the Labour Day long weekend, or as long as Mother Nature allows, according to the City.
