Organizations in Lethbridge can now utilize some of the City’s surplus assets.
A new webpage has been launched by the City of Lethbridge, making out-of-use assets available to groups in the community.
Items include materials like streetcar tracks, which are now available on the webpage.
Organizations who may be able to utilize these items can submit a ‘Statement of Capability’, including a brief overview of what they do, their experience managing similar assets, and their ability to store, transport and care for the listed item.
The bid should also describe how the organization plans to use the asset, its anticipated benefit to the group, and any partnerships or resources involved in their project.
If more than one group submits interest for the item, officials will review all submissions before choosing the organization that will get the item.
“Our goal is to ensure these items go to groups that can put them to meaningful and responsible use,” the City said in a news release.
“Donating surplus assets reduces waste, supports local and maximizes value. This process creates a fair, transparent, and central place for organizations to discover available assets and find ways to repurpose them.”
Surplus items will be posted for a minimum of four weeks.
Items can be viewed online through the City of Lethbridge website.
As of May 21, there are six groupings of streetcar tracks available from the City.
Officials said the tracks are aged, and many are incomplete. The pieces were all removed from 3 Avenue South during an infrastructure project done in 2020 and 2021.
