Property tax notices mailed out in Lethbridge

Property owners in Lethbridge should expect to get their tax notices soon.

The City said property tax notices have been mailed out, with payments due by June 30. A seven per cent penalty will be applied to all unpaid 2026 balances as of July 1.

Officials added that late payment penalties will not be waived for individuals who did not receive their tax notice. Property owners who have not received their notice by June 8 can use the MyCity online service to register their property using the roll number and access code provided on the Property Assessment Notice sent in January.

Once registered, property owners can reprint a copy of their tax notice. Residents can also contact 311 (or 403-320-3111 if outside of Lethbridge), or email tax@lethbridge.ca for help.

For anyone who has recently acquired property in the city and has not received their notice, proof of ownership will be needed when contacting 311 or visiting City Hall for a copy. There are many different payment options for property owners, including:

  • In person: cash, cheques and debit card payments are accepted on the main floor at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Credit cards are not accepted at City Hall.
  • Directly at your bank. Officials said the City will accept the teller stamp date as the date of payment received.
  • Online or telephone banking using the 13-digit roll number located in the top right of the tax notice. Payees are asked to select ‘Lethbridge (City of) Taxes’.
  • Cheque or money order can be mailed or dropped off at City Hall (910 – 4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0P6).
  • Payees are asked to not send cash by mail.
  • The City has a secure mailbox located at the front doors of City Hall or the drive-through drop box in the traffic circle behind City Hall.
  • Online with a credit card through lethbridge.ca/pay. For a 2.25 per cent fee, property and Downtown Business Improvement Area taxes can be paid using MasterCard or Visa. Payees should allow one to two business days for processing.

The City said residents should not send e-transfers as they are not accepted as payment.

TIPP

Property owners can also sign up for the monthly Tax Instalment Prepayment Plan, or TIPP, which offers a one per cent monthly discount on the credit balance.

Sign-up for 2027 is available for those whose 2026 taxes are paid in full. Property owners are advised to register before July 20 to start at the beginning of the TIPP cycle.

More details on property taxes are available on the City of Lethbridge website.
