Lethbridge’s diverse culture to be celebrated at 2026 Afro-Caribbean Festival

The diverse culture of Lethbridge will be celebrated this summer, as the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association hosts the 2026 Afro-Caribbean Festival.

The event is set for July 4 at Galt Gardens.

Executive director for the SAEA, Tim Wiebe, said the festival will feature display booths from various groups, kids’ activities, a beer garden, traditional food and drinks, and cultural performances. “We’re really looking forward to it,” Wiebe said.

He added that the festival will help “showcase some of the diverse cultures and diverse people that make up our city, and it’s getting more diverse all the time”.

“It’s just important to honour and to celebrate the gift that each person and each culture brings and Afro-Caribbean Fest and the other festivals that we host are kind of our way to bring that to the community.”

He said he hopes everyone in the community can check out the event and “learn a little bit about [the] people of Afro-Caribbean heritage who live in our city”.

Wiebe added that the SAEA is looking for volunteers to help at the festival, and there are still spaces for more displays and performers who want to get involved. Those interested can contact the association at 403-320-1577 or by visiting the SAEA website.

The 2026 Afro-Caribbean Festival is on July 4 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Galt Gardens. The family-friendly event is free to attend.
