On June 16, Coalhurst Council held a regular meeting and adopted a new Asset Management Policy.
The policy will guide how the Town plans, manages, maintains, and invests in municipal infrastructure over the long-term.
According to the Town, the policy is intended to support responsible decision-making, improve coordination across departments, and help ensure municipal infrastructure is managed in a sustainable and cost-effective way.
Implementation will involve ongoing staff training, interdepartmental coordination, and continued maintenance of asset information to support informed operational and financial planning.
Council previously approved $70,000 in the 2026 Budget for asset management software implementation, consultant support, and staff training.
This work is being funded through the Local Government Fiscal Framework Operating Grant.
Also at the meeting, Council approved a Community Support Grant application from the Barons-Eureka-Warner Family and Community Support Services in the amount of $676.
The funds are intended to purchase a freezer and insulated food transport bags to support the launch of a six-month pilot frozen meal program for Coalhurst residents.
According to the Town, the intent of the program is to improve food security, support independence, and provide residents with access to healthy meal options within the community.
With six months remaining in the year, administration provided an update on the Community Grant Program.
“To-date, including the application approved at the June 16 Council meeting, four organizations have received a total of $6,676 in funding,” the Town noted.
There is currently $1,324 remaining for 2026.
