Lethbridge not-for-profit organizations are receiving more than half a million dollars in provincial funding to support a variety of local community initiatives.
Nine projects in the city have been selected for funding through the Community Capital Project Grant, totalling just over $501,000. City of Lethbridge officials said the program supports capital projects delivered through two funding streams. One stream funds planning and design work, while the other supports construction, renovations, equipment purchases and technology upgrades. Priority is given to projects that improve access to inclusive recreational, educational and wellness opportunities.
Among the recipients, Prairie Baseball Academy is receiving $200,000 to help upgrade the Lloyd Nolan Yard with new field turf, improved playing surfaces and upgraded training areas. Safe Families Canada’s Lethbridge chapter is getting $138,000 toward developing two fourplexes to provide short-term emergency housing for families in crisis. The Fleetwood Bawden Fundraising Society is receiving about $49,000 to replace and improve a local playground, while the Family Centre Society of Southern Alberta will use $30,000 to upgrade computers and server systems.
Other funding includes $34,000 for Lakie Middle School Society to build outdoor beach volleyball courts, $22,907 for Ability Resources Association to improve sound attenuation in its facilities and $20,000 for the Lethbridge Fish and Game Association to complete facility reviews.
Smaller grants also went to the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge for a new artist studio space and the Hungarian Canadian Old Timers’ Society of Lethbridge for kitchen and utility upgrades.
According to the grant criteria project mast have matched with additional funding from other sources and the Community Capital Project Grant can cover up to half of costs for planning projects and up to one-third of eligible costs for construction and major upgrades, to a maximum of $200,000.
The next intake for the program opens in late 2026 or early 2027. Organizations are also encouraged to apply for the province’s Community Facility Enhancement Program, which offers additional funding for community infrastructure projects.
