Road closures announced for Street Machine Weekend

The streets of Lethbridge will be busy over the next few days.

The annual Street Machine Weekend is from July 10 to 12, and some road closures will be in effect, along with potential transit delays and other traffic impacts.

CONTROLLED CRUISE

For the Friday night Controlled Cruise, the City of Lethbridge said the following areas will be closed off to regular traffic:

  • 3 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 20 Street South
  • 8 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 1 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 8 Street South
  • 5 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 20 Street South from 2 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 19 Street South from 2 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 2 Avenue South from 19 Street South to 20 Street South

Officials said the temporary closures will start at 6 p.m., and all roads should be reopened by midnight. Parking restrictions will be in effect along the route from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Additionally, some roads near the route will be marked as ‘local/business traffic only’.

Officials advise those going through Stafford Drive South or 13 Street South to give themselves a few extra minutes to account for slower traffic during the cruise.

SHOW AND SHINE

The Show and Shine will cap off the weekend fun at Galt Gardens on Sunday.

The following roads will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • 5 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 3 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 7 Street South

The City added that events will impact bus routes as well, with further details available on the Lethbridge Transit webpage.

The community is asked to slow down, follow all posted signage and watch for increased pedestrian activity throughout the weekend.
