Drivers urged to slow down after two Taber speeding cases

Police are reminding drivers to follow speed limits this summer after two incidents of excessive speeding in Taber in less than a week.

According to Taber Police Service, the first incident happened July 10, when a Buick Enclave was stopped travelling 90 kilometres an hour in a 50-kilometre-an-hour zone. Police said construction signs were posted in the area, but no workers were present at the time, so fines were not doubled.

Police said the driver, a 62-year-old woman, was fined $560.

The second incident happened July 17, 2026, in the area of Township Road 100 and Range Road 172, when a white Chevrolet Cruze was stopped travelling 133 kilometres an hour in an 80-kilometre-an-hour zone. Police said the driver, a 20-year-old woman, was issued a summons to attend Taber Court of Justice on Sept. 22.

Police said it is important for drivers to remember that speeding is against the law and puts lives at risk.

“While enforcement plays an important role, preventing high-speed incidents depends on drivers making responsible choices, obeying posted limits & staying mindful of others on the road,” reads a statement from Taber Police.
