Council approves funding for Streets Alive project

Lethbridge city council has approved funding to support a new recovery housing project led by Streets Alive Mission.

During its July 14 meeting, council agreed to contribute $596,538 from the city’s affordable and social housing capital fund toward the construction of a 32-bed recovery facility for men on the city’s south side.

According to documents provided to council, the contribution represents about 17 per cent of the total project cost. The facility is expected to cost roughly $3.5 million to renovate and modernize.

The Province of Alberta has committed $1 million, or about 28 per cent of the project. The remainder will be covered through Streets Alive Mission contributions and financing.
Council’s approval is subject to a third-party contribution agreement with terms satisfactory to the mayor. Council also authorized the city manager and city clerk to sign the agreement.

Streets Alive Mission said the project is shovel-ready pending final approvals and is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
