Driver charged after allegedly travelling 142 km/h north of Taber

Police have laid four traffic-related charges against a 21-year-old after stopping a vehicle allegedly travelling well above the posted speed limit north of Taber.

A Taber Police Service Regional Community Standards Unit officer stopped a Honda Accord on July 24 after police alleged it was travelling 142 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on Highway 36 north near Township Road 112.

The driver was charged with speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a licence plate, police said.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Taber Court of Justice on Sept. 22.

Police urged motorists to slow down, noting higher speeds make collisions more likely and can lead to more serious injuries.

Officers also encouraged drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, insured and displaying the correct licence plate before heading onto the road.

“Help keep our roads safe by slowing down and making sure your vehicle is road legal,” police said.
