RCMP issues over 1,000 traffic-related tickets over long weekend

Alberta RCMP conducted enhanced traffic safety enforcement throughout the province from July 31 to Aug. 3 during the Heritage Day long weekend.

The safety blitz resulted in 1,107 traffic-related tickets.

Of the 1,107 tickets issued, 513 were for speeding, 27 for distracted driving, and 20 for seatbelt infractions.

Additionally, 90 drivers were removed from Alberta roads for impairment from alcohol or drugs.

Sadly, there were 28 injury collisions and five fatal collisions during the enforcement period.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull from Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “We all have a role to play in keeping Alberta’s roads safe. Choices such as driving sober, staying focused behind the wheel, adjusting your driving to road and weather conditions, and buckling up can save lives.”
