New 568 area code coming to Alberta in 2028

A new area code is coming to Alberta.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, or CRTC, announced the approval of a sixth area code for the province.

The CRTC said the new area code will ensure Alberta does not run out of phone numbers, with a new code needed by 2029.

Following a recommendation by an ad hoc committee, the CRTC has approved the area code 568. The new code will come into effect on June 10, 2028.

Currently, Alberta is served by five area codes: 368, 403, 587, 780, and 825.
