Lucky ticket gives Taber family a boost for future education costs

A Taber man plans to save his $100,000 LOTTO MAX prize to help pay for his sons’ post-secondary education in the future.

Vonie Prijoles found out he had won while checking a pile of lottery tickets during a day off.

“I was scanning them on the Lotto Spot app, and I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Prijoles said.

He said he wasn’t sure how to tell his wife after realizing he had won.

“I wanted to wait until she got home,” he said. “The first thing I said to her when she walked in the door is, ‘We have a problem!'”

After letting her know he wasn’t serious, Prijoles handed her the winning ticket.

“She was stunned.”

Prijoles said he intends to put the winnings aside to help cover his sons’ future education costs.

“It just feels surreal,” he added.

Prijoles bought the winning LOTTO MAX ticket at the 7-Eleven on 50 Avenue in Taber.

He won the $100,000 prize in the May 5 LOTTO MAX draw by matching the numbers 5, 6, 15, 19, 32, 36 and 38.
