Mounties to get new wardrobe across Alberta

Starting this week, frontline RCMP officers will begin wearing new navy-blue uniform shirts as part of the force’s ongoing efforts to modernize its uniform.

According to RCMP officials, officers at detachments across Alberta will start wearing the new shirts Aug. 15.

The uniform change will happen gradually across the country. During the transition, Alberta residents may encounter officers wearing either the new navy-blue shirts or the existing grey ones.

The RCMP has acknowledged that having two shirt colours in circulation could make it harder for people to distinguish legitimate officers from individuals posing as police.

People who are unsure whether someone is a legitimate RCMP officer can request identification. If further confirmation is needed, residents can call their local detachment using its non-emergency number.
