Hurricanes’ Dayne Beuker named WHL Rookie of the Week

The Western Hockey League has announced the recipients of its weekly awards, and a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes has received recognition for his efforts.

Forward Dayne Beuker has been named the Ricky’s WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 20.

Lethbridge started its 2026-27 regular season with two losses against the Medicine Hat Tigers, but Beuker was able to shine in defeat.

In a 5-2 loss to open the regular season on Friday, Sept. 18, Beuker scored a power play goal in the third period and dished out a primary assist to team captain Owen Berge during the game at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. The 18-year-old from Humboldt, Saskatchewan’s goal was the first of the season for the Hurricanes.

The following night, at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat, Beuker assisted on a power play goal by Logan Stuart in the third period. It was the lone goal of the 5-1 loss for Lethbridge.

Beuker, the son of former WHL player Dean, was selected by Lethbridge with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. He signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Hurricanes on June 4, 2026.

He spent the last two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program.

Beuker competed at the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge in Calgary and Lethbridge, where he scored one goal.

Up next for the Hurricanes is a contest against the Red Deer Rebels at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
