On Oct. 12, the Lethbridge Corn Maze hosts its annual Thanksgiving fundraiser.
This year, all admission proceeds will go to support AdaptABLE Outdoors, a non-profit organization based in Pincher Creek that provides adaptive outdoor experiences for people of all abilities.
For more than 25 years, the Slingerland family celebrates Thanksgiving by finding meaningful ways to give back to the community.
“We’re grateful to be able to support an organization that helps make the outdoors accessible to people of all abilities. We hope our Thanksgiving fundraiser will help them continue their important work,” said owner Theo Slingerland.
“People with disabilities often face unique barriers when accessing outdoor recreation, especially in rural communities. We use adaptive equipment, teamwork, and creativity to allow people of all abilities to experience the benefits of outdoor recreation, leading to physically and mentally healthier individuals, families, and communities,” said AdaptABLE Outdoors founders Steve and Sara Holly. “We keep our programs very affordable for our clients and free to those experiencing financial hardship, so cost is not another barrier to participation. To deliver these experiences, we rely on volunteer support, grants, and private donations for equipment and operational needs.”
This year, AdaptABLE Outdoors was chosen because the Slingerland family has a friend who has participated in the program since he was four years old.
“He’s now 28. They were able to go out to the mountains and go do fun stuff like hiking and kayaking. They’re fairly tight in their funds, so we decided to help them,” Slingerland noted.
According to Slingerland, the southern Alberta tourist attraction features a 10-acre corn maze divided up into three different mazes. “A trivia maze, a big maze, and a kids’ maze.”
“If you come out, be prepared. It’s a farm, but it’s fun to be outside,” added Slingerland.
Each year, the Slingerlands come up with a theme for the big maze. This year, Theo’s grandkids picked the theme.
“They all said dinosaurs, so dinosaurs is the theme this year,” Slingerland shared.
Slingerland encourages everyone to come out to the Lethbridge Corn Maze to have fun. “And hopefully we can continue supporting local organizations.”
The Lethbridge Corn Maze is open until Oct. 31.
Visitors can enjoy the corn mazes, yard mazes, ziplines, petting zoo, corn pit, jumping pillow, and the new food truck.
The pumpkin displays are also perfect for a fall family picture or to pick out the perfect pumpkin.
