Three men charged in relation to rural Taber area thefts

MD of Taber, Alberta – Arrests have been made stemming from a series of break, enter and thefts in the rural Taber area.

RCMP say there was a theft last Wednesday evening near Range Road 154 and Township Road 94 followed by a 911 call about an unknown man pointing a firearm from a pick-up truck.

Two suspects were identified and one, 42 year old Brent Madill of Calgary, was arrested without incident about two miles away.

He’s charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Theft under $5000 (x3)
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Flight from police
  • Possess break in instruments
  • Fail to comply with release order (x3)
  • Breach of probation (x4)
  • Possession of a controlled substance (CDSA)
  • Operate a motor vehicle with no insurance (TSA)

The second suspect, 36 year old Gino Policarpo, was not immediately located but ended up being spotted by police in Calgary Monday afternoon.

He was with two other men at a gas station in the area of 42 avenue southeast and Blackfoot Trail.

After fleeing on foot, Mounties say Policarpo got tangled in some razor wire while trying to hop a chain link fence.

A quick trip to the hospital and he was released back into police custody.

Policarpo is charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possessing a dangerous weapon
  • Theft Under (x3)
  • Mischief Under
  • Break and enter to commit theft
  • Possession of Stolen Property (x6)
  • Resist arrest
  • Assault Peace Officer with weapon
  • Possess break in instruments
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public
  • Resist a Peace Officer
  • Drive with no insurance (TSA)

He was also arrested on outstanding warrants from an unrelated occurrence for:

  • Utter threats
  • Assault
  • Assault with weapon

Both men remain in custody and have Lethbridge court appearances coming up.

A third man, 43 year old Craig Quesnell of Calgary, was also arrested on Monday and charged with:

  • Possession of Stolen Property (x5)
  • Possess break in instruments
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public
  • Fail to comply with court order
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Quesnell also was arrested on several outstanding warrants, some offences include:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Possess break-in instruments
  • Break and enter to commit theft
  • Fail to attend court

His court appearances will be in Calgary.

Five stolen licence plates as well as a substance believed to be fentanyl and break-in tools were seized.
