The Town of Coaldale will soon be updating all current school and playground zones in the municipality to standardized year-round playground zones. Starting February 21st, the town will be upgrading all current signage to be more uniform, and will better help inform drivers that the zones are in effect year-round, from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm.
Coaldale Manager of Policing Mark Anderson says signage currently is not consistent within the town from location to location, nor is it in how certain areas are designated. He says it could help crate some confusion amongst drivers and increases the risk
to playground users.
“Standardizing these signs will make it safer for children using all playgrounds, including school playgrounds, and bring Coaldale in line with other major centres in Alberta for consistency when traveling between communities.”
Anderson says they also plan on reinstalling previously removed playground zone signs previously from 23rd Ave near Kate Andrews High School and on 20th Street at John Davidson School.
The decision to standardize the signage was made at a meeting of council back in November and will cost the municipality approximately $10,000.
