A well-known neon sign will soon be lit up again, this time indoors at Lethbridge’s Galt Museum and Archives.
Last November, the Alberta Meat Market sign, which had been in place for over 50 years, was taken down off the building it was on along 6th Avenue South and donated to the Galt.
The sign was only a handful of neon signs put up between the 1950’s and 70’s which was still in place until late last year.
The old neon sign has now been restored, thanks to Pat and Hollie Carroll. “I am a huge fan of neon in general.” says Pat, “After having read the article in the paper regarding the donation of the sign to the Galt, I wanted to see if there was a way to get it lit and working as a memory of neon in Lethbridge.”
The sign hadn’t been working in a very long time, but now thanks to the Carroll’s donation, it’s going to be lit up once again.
Gimmy Abrioti from LA Neon was consulted and determined that functionality could be restored to the sign before mounting it in the permanent exhibit.
The old Alberta Meat Market sign will officially be installed next Monday, July 15 at its new permanent home at the Galt.
