LPS issues 28 tickets during weekend traffic enforcement initiative

Lethbridge police say they removed four impaired drivers from the road this weekend and put about 230 drivers through check stops.

In addition to the four immediate roadside sanction for drinking and driving, the traffic response unit issued three violations for zero tolerance with a graduated drivers license, according to police. Police says a total of 28 tickets were issued during the weekend enforcement initiative.

“The enforcement project, which will continue on random weekends over the next few months, is aimed at providing safer roads for all users, allowing residents more peace and quiet and alleviating demands on patrol members,” reads a new release from the Lethbridge Police Service.

LPS also says public complaints about speeding, racing, stunting and loud vehicles have increased and the traffic unit hopes the highly visible police presence will help reduce these behaviours.
