Injured snowmobiler rescued by helicopter south of Coleman

Emergency responders took to the sky recently to help rescue an injured snowmobiler in the back country.

Crowsnest Pass RCMP say they received a report from a company that monitors backcountry emergencies around 9 p.m. on March 13th about the injured man. Officials say the area is well known by emergency responders as not being accessible by vehicle, so the decision to attempt a helicopter long line rescue was made.

Mounties, along with Kananaskis Mountain Rescue, as well as Crowsnest Pass Fire Department and EMS were able to safely retrieve the injured 25-year-old from steep and high mountainous terrain, and he was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

“This rescue was a great example of how multiple agencies work together for a common goal,” says Crowsnest Pass RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt Randy Guinchard. “Due to the quick thinking of all emergency responders involved, the injured male was safely and quickly rescued and was able to receive medical attention.”
