Residents 55 and older have the chance to take part in a senior exchange program with Lethbridge’s official twin city, Saint-Laurent Quebec.
In 1967, the two communities entered a formal city-to-city twinning arrangement as part of a Canadian centennial project that promotes cultural and social relationships between eastern and western parts of the country.
The exchanges take place annually and alternates seniors and students.
From July 26 to 31, the Saint-Laurent members of the exchange will be in Lethbridge, then the reverse will happen from August 30 to September 4.
Those taking part in the exchange are matched based on their common interests and visitors stay at their “twins” home for five nights.
Activities are organized that provide the visitors a chance to get to know one another and discover the region.
Any costs associated with the exchange, including plane tickets, public transportation, any touring activities and meals during group excursions are covered by the municipalities.
Any resident of Lethbridge 55 and older that’s interested in taking part in the exchange must be able to participate in scheduled activities that involve walking more than 5,000 steps a day, be willing to be an ambassador for Lethbridge, pass a criminal background check, have the facilities to host someone in your home for the exchange, and must be okay with staying in someone else’s home in Saint-Laurent.
