UPDATE: Environment Canada has ended the extreme cold warning for southern Alberta, with the coldest forecasted temperature in the coming days being -25 degrees Celsius overnight on Wednesday, January 17th.
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the Lethbridge region due to extremely cold temperatures forecasted in the coming days.
Lethbridge is said to expect the coldest forecasted temperatures by Saturday morning but will see a low of -30 degrees Celsius overnight Wednesday, January 10th.
According to Environment Canada “Over the weekend, morning temperatures will reach minus 40 degrees Celsius in many areas. Wind chills will approach minus 50.”
People are being advised to cover up to avoid frostbite, and are advising anyone who feels it is too cold for them to stay indoors. Those at greatest risk are said to be young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, or anyone people working or exercising outdoors, along with those who don’t have proper shelter.
Temperatures are forecasted to improve early next week.
