Southern Alberta paddler heading to World Dragon Boat Championships

Taber’s Romina Senneker is on her way to compete at the International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Thailand later this month.

The 56 year old will be joining a select group of top paddlers from dragon boat clubs across Canada.

She earned her place on Dragon Boat Canada’s 50+ Senior Women’s B team in May after several years of training.

Senneker says “this has been an amazing journey. Definitely it hasn’t been an easy journey, juggling family, full-time work, training and travelling, but it has positively impacted my whole self by making me a stronger woman both physically and mentally.” She also jokes “how crazy is this, to think I am part of a national team, representing my country on the world stage, at my age.”

Team Canada will be among 4,000 athletes from 30 countries on six continents competing in Thailand with the goal of being named best in the world.

The championships run August 20-25.
