Convicted polygamist sentenced to jail for removing child from Canada for a sexual purpose

A convicted polygamist and former Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints Bishop from Bountiful, BC has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for removing a child from Canada for a sexual purpose.

55 year old James Oler was sentenced in Cranbrook, BC Supreme Court Thursday.

He was found guilty in May of orchestrating the removal of a 15-year-old girl to be married into a polygamous relationship with another member of the FLDS.

Court heard it was at the instruction of FLDS Prophet Warren Jeffs in June 2004.

He’s since been banished from the church and reportedly has no contact with his family, living a solitary life north of Edmonton.

Oler will be on probation for 18 months following his release.
