Local coach Henry Brooks recalls resilient journey in new memoir

A Lethbridge coach has written his first book recalling “a resilient journey through medical crisis and beyond.”

When recovery from his 16th knee surgery reveals a massive brain tumour, Henry Brooks faces life-altering decisions. In “Sidelined: A Coach’s Memoir of Battling a Brain Tumour,” Brooks draws on his knowledge as a coach to navigate difficulties, while embracing adversity with positivity and hope. The book was released earlier this month.

“In the book I describe what I was going through, what I was thinking and why,” says Brooks.

“There is no way I’d been able to do this on my own. I had a lot of help from good people that were crucial to this. These people were very helpful,” adds Brooks. “It took me about a weekend to write the book. That was quite therapeutic because it brought me back to all the experiences I had.”

Now that the book is done, Brooks says, it’s exciting people can read his story. But the first-time author notes whoever wants to listen to his story, “I’ll tell it to them.”

Currently, the self-published book is available online through Amazon and Brooks hopes Analog Books will stock the book on its shelves locally.

Brooks notes he and his family are thankful for all the support they have received then and now. “I am truly grateful for all the support we got and the help I got with this.”
