Street Wheelers brings weekend road closures

Street Wheelers will take to city streets this weekend, and that means some road closures. 

The annual Controlled Cruise is scheduled for Friday. A revised route this year will include the following road closures: 

  • 3 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 20 Street South  
  • 8 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 1 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 8 Street South
  • 5 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 20 Street South from 2 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 19 Street South from 2 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  • 2 Avenue South from 19 Street South to 20 Street South 

The roads will close at 6:30 p.m. and reopen by midnight.  

Nearby roads leading to the route will be marked as “local/business traffic only.” Parking restrictions will also be in place along the route from 5 p.m. until midnight. 

Traffic signals along northbound and southbound Stafford Drive South and 13 Street South will remain, but motorists should expect delays. Motorists are encouraged to use Scenic Drive South and Mayor Magrath Drive South, as alternative routes. 

The Show and Shine at Galt Gardens Sunday will also include road closures: 

  •    5 Street South from 1 Avenue South to 3 Avenue South
  •    3 Avenue South from 5 Street South to 7 Street South 

These closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
