Pronghorns name recipients of academic excellence awards

The University of Lethbridge (U of L) Pronghorns have named the winners of the President’s Award for the 2023-24 academic year.

It celebrates a student-athlete with the highest academic standing while competing in full-time varsity sports. Not one, but two student-athletes have been named winners.

Danielle Nadeau of the women’s basketball team and Anneke De Klerk from the Pronghorns women’s soccer team have received the award.

Nadeau is entering her fourth year with the basketball crew and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science, while De Klerk is a recent graduate of the post-secondary, having completed a Bachelor of Science. Both student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.

“Both Dani and Anneke have represented everything it means to be a Pronghorn student-athlete over their time with us,” says director of Pronghorn Athletics Spencer Pommells.

“To see them recognized with this award is both very fitting, and a glimpse into their bright futures,” he adds.

TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD

Meanwhile, the U of L women’s basketball team has received the Team Academic Award for the highest overall team GPA, with the squad achieving a 3.51 average GPA.

“For a number of years, our women’s basketball program has been a shining light within Pronghorn Athletics and the University of Lethbridge,” Pommells says.

“To see that nine student-athletes within this program achieved Academic All-Canadian status is truly remarkable and a testament to the culture that has been developed by [head coach] Dave Waknuk, his staff and every one of the student-athletes who have been a part of the program.”
