Team Lethbridge advocates for supports needed in the community

Advancing Lethbridge’s status and showcasing strong regional collaboration and championing the community’s needs will be the primary focus for two members of Lethbridge City Council during an advocacy trip this week.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen, Councillor Jenn Schimdt-Rempel, as well as City Manager Lloyd Brierley, are part of the Team Lethbridge contingent heading to Edmonton today through Thursday.

Led by Economic Development Lethbridge, this will be the eighth Team Lethbridge visit since 2008. This year, there are representatives from 19 different local and regional organizations.

Expansion of Lethbridge water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, Highway 3 bridge and interchange improvements, plus continued collaboration on physician recruitment, will continue to be the City of Lethbridge’s top advocacy items.

“Much like the Alberta Municipalities Convention in September, this is a great opportunity for members of Council and the city manager to meet with provincial ministers and continue to advocate for the supports we need in our city to best serve our residents,” says Hyggen.

The goals for Team Lethbridge include:

  • Elevate the unique strengths and contributions of the Lethbridge region among provincial decision makers.
  • Convey appreciation for investment/funding in Lethbridge and communicate the additional impact possible with further investment.
  • Advance key community investment and policy priorities.
  • Increase Lethbridge’s inclusion/participation in strategic decision making.
  • Build relationships, capacity and enhance opportunities between all partner organizations.
