Local food banks are in full swing, as they help the many families that will need assistance this Christmas.
Interfaith Food Bank and The Second Door Thrift Store will be open additional hours on Saturdays in December to allow donors time to stop in with donations of food or funds.
“They’re also hosting a Christmas Market Dec. 7, when community members can purchase baking, canning and gifts for the holiday season. The Second Door Thrift Store is a year-round thrift store that offers both new and gently-used items at garage sale pricing,” notes Interfaith. “Currently, we have an abundant stock of Christmas decorations and other holiday items, great stuff for stocking stuffers, gift wrapping and decorating for the holiday season.”
The Christmas Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Interfaith, if you do not have time to stop into the food bank, there are several locations throughout the city, including all major grocery stores, with collection bins for Interfaith Food Bank. “Multiple campaigns are also being offered by local businesses and organizers encourage community members to choose giving options that suit them best.”
Donations can be dropped off at 1103 3 Avenue North or online donations can be made online at interfaithfoodbank.ca. A secure mailbox is available at the food bank, as well.
