National Addictions Awareness Week offers advice and resources

This week is National Addictions Awareness Week. 

According to Alberta Health Services, information, advice and resources are available to help you or others with substance use or addiction concerns. Visit Substance use & addiction | Recovery Alberta. 

Resources to help you or others with substance use or addiction concerns: 

  • 24/7 supports are available through: 
  • The Mental Health Helpline: 1-877-303-2642 
  • The Addiction Helpline: 1-866-332-2322 
  • 2-1-1, call or text INFO to 2-1-1 or visit ab.211.ca. Services are available in more than 170 languages. 
  • Access Addiction and Mental Health line: 1-888-594-0211, Monday to Friday from
    8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • The Indigenous Support Line: 1-844-944-4744, Monday to Friday from noon to 8 p.m. Available for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, to answer questions and support culturally appropriate care. 

Several free wellness courses are available to help Albertans learn coping skills, reduce stress and build healthy connections; all strategies helpful in reducing substance use: 

Recovery Alberta’s hope with anyone experiencing a mental illness or addiction is they can achieve and maintain remission or manage a mental health problem or illness and live a satisfying, hopeful and contributing life, even when symptoms are present.
