The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge has issued a warning about scammers using the organization’s name.
According to Allied Arts Council officials, there is a phishing scam targeting arts organizations across Alberta, where the scammers are posing as board members or employees. By impersonating members of the organization the fraudsters are allegedly attempting to deceive people out of donations.
AAC officials are advising community members that members of the board of directors and employees will not reach out by email to request money or sensitive information. They are urging those who receive an email they believe to be suspicious to trust their instincts and reach out to the organization directly.
