Coalhurst council approve 4.61 per cent tax increase for 2025

Town of Coalhurst taxes will see a 4.61 per cent increase in 2025.

Town council approved the Interim Budget earlier this week, covering essential services such as road
maintenance, water and sewer services, parks and recreation amenities, family and community support
services, and emergency services.

Capital projects that are covered in the interim budget include completing the paving of the Community Centre parking lots along with road rehabilitation projects in the community and continuing to develop the Wetlands recreation area. Replacement parts for the spray park, sewer main lining and maintenance and construction of a new storm trunk along 45th Avenue are also included.

Town of Coalhurst Mayor Lyndsay Montina says the approved budget came from multiple weeks of discussion and review. She explains during these discussions councillors sincerely took into consideration the impact that an increase would have on taxpayers while also maintaining the levels of service our those in the town have come to expect and rely on.

“In preparing for this budget, Administration and staff carefully assessed every line item and made adjustments to ensure we’re responsibly managing municipal finances and sustainably protecting our municipality’s assets,” Montina says.

For a homeowner in the town whose property is valued at $350,000 the increase will equal an additional $9.81 per month in municipal taxes next year.
